Arrived at Manila
We arrived in Manila at 9:35 AM after a flight from Hong Kong. We left the international airport at around 10:30 AM and were welcomed by Prof. Dhana from the Philippine Normal University (PNU), who picked us up at the airport. She kindly provided us with some snacks, such as biscuits and mineral water, for our journey. Along the way from the airport, we observed many buildings and surroundings that reminded us of Indonesia, as we found several similarities between the two countries.
After arriving at our dormitory, we took some time to rest after the long journey from Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang. We spent almost two hours in our room, arranging our luggage and belongings while recovering our energy before starting our activities in Manila.
While we were resting, one of the professors from PNU, Prof. Vicky, visited our room and invited us to have lunch together. Since we wanted to try chicken and rice, we decided to have our lunch at Jollibee, one of the most popular fast-food restaurants in the Philippines, located in SM Manila. After lunch, we went grocery shopping to buy some daily necessities, including rice, dishwashing soap, drinking water, and other supplies. We also purchased SIM cards to access the internet during our stay in Manila. However, the registration process was quite challenging and took a long time to complete.
After finishing our shopping, we visited PNU, which was located very close to SM Manila. We went to Prof. Dhana’s office, where we discussed creating a WhatsApp group to facilitate communication between us throughout the program. After that, we returned to our dormitory, where we prayed, took a shower, and had a simple dinner together in our room. Although it was only our first day in Manila, we were already experiencing new environments, meeting welcoming people, and preparing ourselves for the exciting journey ahead.
