Observation Day: Students' Presentation
On this day, we were finally back to school after two days of weekend. We went to school at 5.40 in the morning by feet. I observed the English classroom. On this meeting, the students presented their presentation about the elements of a story entitled, “The Stranger” by I.V Mallari. All four groups presented the presentation in their own creative way. Some of them showed their work in front of the class. From the observation, I observed that the English class managed by my new mentor, Ma’am Karen was more student-centered than my first observation with the English class managed by Ma’am Garcia. On this day, I saw that the teacher acted as a facilitator and the interactions in the class varied, such as, student to student, teacher to student, and student to teacher. It was because of after presenting, other groups should ask questions to the presenters and presenters would answer the questions. Moreover, presenters should also ask questions to the audiences and audiences would answer the questions. After that, teachers gave questions to the presenters and presenters should answer them correctly. Last but not least, there was also feedback by teachers and students for the group’s presentation. Therefore, it was an interactive class. After that, the next group will present about other elements they had discussed in the previous meetings. For this meeting, each class only had two groups to present. The rest three groups in each class would be continued to the next day. After observation, I met my friends at our assembly point, which was near the gate. We met there to have our lunch. After having my lunch, I met Ma’am Karen to discuss about the lesson plan as well as the activities I should do for my teaching demo in her class. From the discussion, I was asked to create a lesson plan for the topic I’m going to teach as well as the assessment rubrics. After discussing, I went back to hostel. At hostel, we cooked vegetable soup. After cooking, I made lesson plan in my room. It took a lot of time. At night, I had dinner and continued to make a lesson plan again before sleeping.
